Capsule Hotel Working Group

< Subject >

In the situation that the lack of hotel guest rooms is escalating due to the expansion of the inbound market in the background, the number of simple accommodations is continuing to increase.
Capsule hotels (also known as pod hotels) are a peculiar type of lodgings with minimized many small bed-sized rooms. Capsule hotels are commonly seen in Japan, and these days, unique chashitsu-style (Japanese traditional tea room style) capsule hotels have even been developed, and will be developed more in the future.
Our working groups’ aim is to create a guideline considering fire safety measure since there is no regulation related to fire protection and evacuation as well as materials of the capsule.
In November 2019, we carried out an experiment to find out the combustion fundamentals of a combustible capsule and reflected the results in the safety measures in the guideline.
